California has just overturned a state ruling that allows the use of cannabis billboards on federal highways in the state of California. While cannabis billboards are still allowed, they are prohibited on highways that cross state lines, such as Interstate 5 and Interstate 15.
The new ordinance, which comes from the California Bureau of Cannabis Control, reverses an earlier ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that allowed only billboards within a 15-mile radius of the border. It is evident that it is much more restrictive not to allow entry on motorways leaving or entering another state than to keep them away from the borders. This is a blow to cannabis advertising in California, but it is also a big step in the right direction for those who find the use of cannabis billboards on federal highways a little too annoying.
