A Chicago Democrat submitted a bill last Wednesday, and now plans to add language that would create an additional 110 cannabis licenses. The proposal is part of a bill that has passed the Senate and is currently waiting on the House of Representatives, where it is under consideration. Just a week after the state issued new cannabis licenses, Democrat Rep. La Shawn Ford says he "introduced Shell's bill, which will eventually be used to create the new license".
Ford said "alluding to the term created to diversify the state's weed industry". The issuance of pending pharmacy licenses has been delayed by an ongoing controversy sparked by social justice activists who gathered after state officials announced last September that they would qualify for a lottery to determine a winner. In the midst of a series of processes, it was later announced that losing applicants would be given the chance to achieve the perfect score required to qualify.
