Anyone who thought Montana's legalization of recreational marijuana meant they could legally sell marijuana right away is mistaken. Voters approved two initiatives on Election Day that most believe open the door to legal and possible legislative challenges that must first be resolved. Now, the Montana Department of Finance says there is still much to do, even with all the legal obstacles the state has created.
Director Gene Walborn says the state is starting to build the system, but he doesn't expect the first licenses to be issued before October 1 next year. Anyone interested in updating the software can sign up with the department or contact the Montana Department of Finance.
